Box Score

The New York University women's soccer team defeated Vassar College by a score of 3-2 on Saturday, September 14, in Poughkeepsie, NY. With the victory, the Violets improved to 3-1-1 for the year, while Vassar dropped to 2-2-1.

NYU got off to a fast start, scoring two goals before seven minutes had gone by. From there, it would be a tightly contested match, as the Brewers outshot the Violets 13-12 for the game and NYU held a 6-5 advantage in shots on target.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- The first Violet goal came in the game's fourth minute from Erin Ahmed. Her shot from 25 yards out was deflected off the Vassar goalkeeper's hands before rolling into the net for her second goal of the season.

- NYU's second goal came quickly, when in the seventh minute Amelia Hammerl placed the ball in the bottom right corner of the net for her second goal of the year. She scored after collecting the rebound off of a saved shot taken by Imani Ribadeneyra.

- The Violets extended their lead to 3-0 in the 17th minute, as Cami Crawford collected her second goal of the campaign.

- The Brewers would chip away, as Kamaria Coley scored the first Vassar goal in the 25th minute to make the score 3-1 and Sheeva Seyfi netted one in the 85th minute to cut the Violet lead to one goal.

- Arianna Strome and Cassie Steinberg played 45 minutes apiece at goalkeeper. Each allowed one goal, with Steinberg recording two saves.

"We were able to produce a solid first-half performance where we created chances and finished those chances," said Head Coach Michele Canning. "It's great to come away with a win on the road."

The Violets return to the field on Thursday, September 19, for their first home match of the season at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY, vs. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM.
