The New York University women's soccer team played SUNY New Paltz to a 1-1 draw on Sunday, September 1, in their second and final game in the Michelle Vargas-Robin Tournament, in New Paltz, NY.

After falling behind 1-0 in the game's opening minutes, the Violets (1-0-1) would outshoot the Hawks (0-1-1) 24-7 for the game, eventually tying the game and forcing overtime on an Amelia Hammerl goal in the 81st minute.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Hammerl's goal was her first of the season and came on a chip over the New Paltz keeper off an assist by Anna Connell.

- Nine of NYU's 24 shots came in the first overtime period, including a chance by Alex Reis that went just high of the crossbar and an attempt by Erin Ahmed that forced a diving save.

- Reis and Ahmed each attempted five shots on the day, while Cami Crawford and Melissa Menta attempted three shots apiece.

- The New Paltz goal came with just over two minutes gone by, when Eleni Anselmi's shot went just to the left of Violet goalkeeper Arianna Strome and into the net.

- NYU would not allow the Hawks many more chances, however, as they managed to only put two more shots on goal for the remainder of the game.

"Overall, I'm happy with how our team played this weekend,"  said Head Coach Michele Canning. "I feel good about a number of our players gaining valuable game experience, and I'm pleased with how we fought back today after getting down early."

NYU will return to the field on Saturday, September 7, when they take on Haverford College in the Stevens Engineering Cup, hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. Kick-off is set for 2:00 pm.
