Women's Volleyball Wins Again

The New York University women's volleyball team swept SUNY Geneseo in the final match of the Labor Day Invitational, which was held at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan on Friday and Saturday, August 30-31.

The Violets (3-0) completed a successful opening weekend by crusing to a 25-16, 25-15, 25-18 win over the Blue Knights (1-2).

Alexandria Mao, who was named to the All-Invitational Team, recorded a match-high 15 kills. She added six digs and a service ace.

Highlights:

- Nicole Frias, also selected to the All-Invitational Team, contributed eight kills, five digs and two service aces.

- Emily Moore led the team in assists for the third consecutive match, totaling 36 on Saturday.

- Allie Williams had eight kills, three assists and a block.

- MaTia Hughes had a match-high 14 digs.

"Geneseo was a formidable opponent, but we were prepared for the battle," said NYU Head Coach Jolie Ward. " We applied strategic offensive and defensive strategies which kept us on top. The ability of our returners to remain aggressive was the key to our success today."

The Violets return to action when they compete in the Vassar College Invitational in Pooughkeepsie, NY, on Friday and Saturday, September 6-7.
