Women's Soccer Dominant in Season Debut

Violets Score Five Goals vs. Salve Regina

The New York University women's soccer team opened the 2013 season on Saturday, August 31, with an impressive 5-1 win over Salve Regina University in the Michelle Vargas-Robin Tournament hosted by SUNY New Paltz in New Paltz, NY.
 
NYU was dominant in victory, as they held a 27-13 advantage over the Seahawks in shots as well as a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal.
 
HIGLIGHTS:
 
- Imani Ribadeneyra had a standout day as she netted two goals. Her first came in the 39th minute on an assist from Claire Shanahan. Sarah Cox notched her first collegiate point when she assisted Ribadeneyra on her second goal in the 66th minute.
 
- Ribadeneyra also notched an assist on the first of Melissa Menta's two goals at the 32:31 mark. Menta's second goal came courtesy of a Cami Crawford assist in the 35th minute.
 
- Erin Ahmed began the offensive outburst for NYU, scoring the first goal of the season at 22:36 off an assist by Maddy Clappin.
 
- Violet goalkeepers Arianna Strome and Cassie Steinberg logged 45 minutes apiece, allowing just one goal and combining for four saves.
 
NYU returns to action on Sunday, September 1, when they face host SUNY New Paltz in their final game of the Michelle Vargas-Robin Tournament at 1:30 pm.
