Women's Soccer Downs Old Westbury 6-0

Six Different Violets Score in the Victory

Hammerl had three points (goal and assist) to lead NYU.

The New York University women's soccer team put up a great offensive effort in a 6-0 victory over the College of Old Westbury on Monday, October 7, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

NYU scored three goals in the first half and another three in the second. Six different Violets scored during the contest, led by junior forward Amelia Hammerl. The forward notched three points with a goal, her fifth of the season, and an assist, her first of 2013.

Overall, 22 different Violets saw time on the pitch during the contest.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sophomore forward Melissa Menta scored her fourth goal of the season to start off the offense just over two minutes into the game.

- Senior quad-captain forward Leslie Smith scored for the second time this season, and now has two goals in the last three contests.

- Freshman forward Azia Javier scored her first-career collegiate goal in the 53rd minute of the game, stretching NYU's lead to 4-0 at the time.

- Junior forward Taylor Francouer scored her first of the season with exactly 22 minutes reminaing in regulation.

- Senior quad-captain forward Imani Ribadeneyra notched her third of the season in the 84th minute to cap the offense for the contest on NYU's first penalty kick of the season.

"I was very impressed by the offensive depth we displayed tonight," said Head Coach Michele Canning. "We were able to get scoring from six different girls, while having the opportunity to play 22 total players."

The Violets will be back on the field when they return to Gaelic Park on Saturday, October 12, for their second University Athletic Association (UAA) contest of the season. NYU is scheduled to kickoff against Case Western Reserve University at 1:30 PM.
