Women's Soccer Plays to 0-0 Draw in UAA Opener at Rochester

Violets Tie Yellowjackets

Steinberg had four saves in her first-career shutout.

The New York University women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw in its University Athletic Association (UAA) season-opener at the University of Rochester on Saturday, October 5, in Rochester, NY.

The Violets (5-3-2, 0-0-1 UAA) tied the Yellowjackets (5-3-2, 0-0-1) in a 0-0, double-overtime contest. NYU bested Rochester 9-4 in shots on goal, but were unable to sneak one past the Yellowjackets' keeper. In addition, each squad notched one yellow card apiece in the hard-fought tie.

The match was NYU's third overtime and second double-overtime contest of the season.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- NYU freshman keeper Cassie Steinberg registered her first-career collegiate shutout, notching four saves.

- Sophomore Melissa Menta and freshman Azia Javier led the Violets with three shots apiece.

NYU will be back on the pitch for a non-UAA match at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY, on Monday, October 7, against The College at Old Westbury. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
