The New York University's women's swimming & diving team defeated two of its three opponents at the University of Rochester Quad Meet, which was held Friday and Saturday, October 25-26, in Rochester, NY.

The Violets were victorious over University Athletic Association (UAA) opponents Brandeis University 311-30 and host Rochester 219-151, but were narrowly beaten by Division I Canisius College 189.5-176.5.

NYU junior Emily Doerner won the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.31) and participated on the winning 200-yard medley relay team with sophomore Krista Traub, freshman Katie Webber and freshman Sydney Pereira (1:50.34). Doerner also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.87 and teamed with Pereira, Traub and freshman Sela Wang to finish second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:38.89.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Freshman Ashlie Pankonin won the one-meter dive with a score of 249.85, while freshman Nia Sorgente finished fourth (217.20) and sophomore Sarah Lorish finished seventh (158.85).

"This meet was a great test for us," said NYU Diving Coach Scott Donie. "Everyone competed well against a strong field of divers. I'm really looking forward to getting back to work with this young and talented group of divers."

- Freshman Michelle Kierencew placed second in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:46.44.

- In the 500-yard freestyle, freshmen Joanna Kostin (5:15.99) and Hedda Boege (5:23.88), finished third and fourth, respectively.

- In the 200-yard breaststroke, freshman Elise Gibbs placed second (2:32.36) and freshman Christine Lusk took third (2:34.77).

"Swimming back-to-back days this early in the season is tough, and I think we did a great job of getting up and racing," said NYU Head Coach Trevor Miele. "While we narrowly lost to Canisius, it was exciting to complete against a high-level Division I school.  I thought our swimmers rose to the challenge and I was impressed with our results."

The Violets will be hosting the NYU Fall Invitational at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan on Friday and Saturday, November 8-9.
