Men's Swimming and Diving Completes Rochester Quad Meet

Violets Defeat Two of Their Three Opponents

The New York University's men's swimming & diving team defeated two of its three opponents as the Violets finished competition at the University of Rochester Invitational on Saturday, October 26, in Rochester, NY. 

The Violets, partcipating in their second competition of the season, beat Brandeis University 302-54 and host Rochester 237-130.5, but were edged by Division I Canisius College 194-176.

NYU junior Jerry Crowley won the 50-yard freestyle (20.58), the 100-yard freestyle (46.08) and the 100-yard butterfly (50.18). He also participated on the winning 400-yard medley relay team (3:33.03) along with senior Charlie Wu, junior Matt Kendall and freshman Max Phillips.

HIGHLIGHTS:
- Senior Adam Winerip finished third in the three-meter dive with a score of 246.35, while junior Brian Blum finished sixth with a score of 242.45.

"This meet was a great test for us," said NYU Diving Coach Scott Donie. "Everyone competed well against a strong field of divers. I'm really looking forward to getting back to work with this young and talented group."

- Freshman Ben Ching placed second in the 400-yard individual medley relay with a time of 4:20.42.

- Along with participating on the winning 400-yard medley relay team, Phillips won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.81 and placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.09.

- Freshman Ryan Yue won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.04, while Ching placed second (2:02.84).

"Swimming back-to-back days this early in the season is tough, and I think we did a great job of getting up and racing," said NYU Head Coach Trevor Miele. "While we narrowly lost to Canisius, it was exciting to compete against a high-level Division I school. I thought our swimmers rose to the challenge and I was impressed with our results."

The Violets will be hosting their next competition, the NYU Fall Invitational, at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan on Friday and Saturday, November 8-9.
