Women's Soccer Falls 2-1 on the Road to #17 Carnegie Mellon

Violets Late Comeback Falls Short

Menta notched her team-leading sixth goal of the season on Sunday.

The New York University women's soccer team fell 2-1 at #17 Carnegie Mellon University in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Sunday, October 20, in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Violets (6-5-3, 0-2-2 UAA) found themselves trailing 2-0 until sophomore forward Melissa Menta found the back of the net in the 73rd minute for her team-leading sixth goal of the season. The score trimmed the Tartans' (8-2-2, 2-1-1) lead to just one. NYU outshot Carnegie Mellon 4-3 in the second half, but fell just short in its comeback attempt.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Menta recorded two shots (both on goal) in the contest. Her goal now gives her a team-leading 15 points on the season.

- Senior co-captain midfielder Leslie Smith dished out her third assist of the season on Menta's goal. Smith now has seven points in 2013.

- Freshman goalkeeper Cassie Steinberg recorded six saves in the game.

- Amanda So and Alex Venegas scored the two goals for Carnegie Mellon.

NYU will be back on the pitch for its final non-conference game of the regular season when it travels to Famingdale, NY, on Wednesday, October 23, to face Farmingdale State College. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
