Women's Volleyball Splits First Day of UAA Round Robin #2

Violets Top Rochester and Fall To Chicago

The New York University women's volleyball team (19-3, 3-2) opened the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2 with a win against the University of Rochester (8-19, 0-4) before losing to the #19 University of Chicago (17-7, 4-0).

NYU came from behind to top Rochester in four sets by a score of 18-25, 25-11, 25-15, 25-11. After losing the first set, the Violets went on a 7-0 run to start the second. The squad went on another seven-point streak in the third set after trailing 8-6. That swung the momentum in their favor and put them in the lead for good. The solid play continued in the final set as the Violets were never seriously threatened.

The Violets were not as fortunate in its second match. NYU fell to Rochester in straight sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-20). NYU never led by more than one point in any set.

After trailing by as much as seven points in the first set, NYU managed to cut the deficit to 22-19 before dropping the next three points.
 
NYU vs. Rochester Highlights:

- Alexandria Mao led all players with 15 kills

- Perri Goldberg dominated on both sides of the ball with 13 kills and 15 digs

- Allie Williams hit .333 with seven kills

- Emily Moore dished out 39 assists

- NYU hit .296 as a team
 
NYU vs. Chicago Highlights:

- Katie Robinson led the way with nine kills

- MaTia Hughes recorded a match-high 18 digs.

- Josie Luck led the team with a .500 hitting percentage to go along with her nine digs

- NYU out-dug Chicago 57-54

"Our consistent serve-receive and ability to put the ball away enabled us to come back against Rochester," said NYU Head Coach Jolie Ward. "We did not play our best volleyball against Chicago. Josie did a great job coming off the bench for us, but we just never found our rhythm."  

The Violets will wrap up the UAA Round Robin #2 tomorrow with matches against Washington University and Brandies University. First serve against Washington is set for 11:00am (est).
