Women's Soccer Drops UAA Contest 2-1 at #7 Emory

Violets Fall to Eagles in Regulation

The New York University women's soccer team suffered its first University Athletic Association (UAA) loss of the season on Friday, October 18, falling to #7 Emory University 2-1 at the Woodruff P.E. Center in Atlanta, GA.

NYU (6-4-3, 0-1-2 UAA) received an outstanding effort from rookie goalkeeper Cassie Steinberg, who recorded six saves in the contest against the Eagles (9-3-1, 2-1-0). In addition, sophomore forward Melissa Menta scored the lone goal for the Violets and now has five on the season. Menta now has a team-leading 13 points in 2013.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- NYU took three shots, all landing on goal.

- In addition to Menta, senior captain Imani Ribadeneyra and junior Cami Crawford took one shot on goal each.

- Senior Erin Ahmed was called for a yellow card in the 64th minute.

- Emory was led by Kelly Costopoulos, who took six shots (two on goal) to score one of the Eagles' two goals on the evening.

The Violets will be back on the field for the second half of their UAA weekend when they travel to Pittsburgh, PA, on Sunday, October 20, for a meeting with Carnegie Mellon University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 PM. Live stats and video will be available on gonyuathletics.com as well.
