Women's Soccer Ties Case Western in UAA Home Opener

Violets Play to Scoreless Draw with Spartans

The New York University women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw in its University Athletic Association (UAA) home opener against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, October 12, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

NYU (6-3-3, 0-0-2) has now begun the UAA portion of its schedule with two straight scoreless ties.

The Violets were led by freshman goalkeeper Cassie Steinberg, as the rookie made five saves for her second career shutout.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- NYU topped Case in shots on goal, 6-5.

- Sophomore forward Melissa Menta had a team-high four shots in the contest.

- Senior forward Erin Ahmed, and junior forwards Cami Crawford and Amelia Hammerl also got into the action for the Violets with three shots apiece.

"I am really proud of the effort the team put in today," said Head Coach Michele Canning. "We were focused throughout the game and fought hard to the last minute of overtime."

NYU will be back on the field when it travels to Atlanta, GA, on Friday, October 18, for another UAA matchup with Emory University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
