Women's Volleyball Sweeps Merchant Marine Academy

The New York University women's volleyball team swept the United States Merchant Marine Academy 3-0 in a match-up played on Wednesday, September 19, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

After a tough first set, which the Violets pulled out 25-23, the rest of the match was no contest as NYU posted set wins of 25-11 and 25-13.

Highlights

- NYU hit .356 as a team for the match.

- Captain Alexandria Mao led a balanced attack with nine kills. Nicole Frias had a career-best eight and Vera Shulgina added seven.

- Jenn Korte also had seven kills and hit a team-best .556.

- Captain Hope Bogle had a match-high 29 assists, while captain Kaylee Schanda totaled a match-high 10 digs.   

- No USMMA player recorde more than five kills.

"Bogle, Mao and Schanda provided stability for our team from the start," said NYU Head Coach Jolie Ward. "It was their leadership that allowed many of our newcomers to have success tonight.”

NYU returns to action this Friday and Saturday, September 21-2, when it hosts the Violet Classic. The team's first match will be against Wesleyan University at 5:00pm on Friday.
