Women's Soccer Rolls Past Old Westbury

Violets Earn 8-2 Road Win

The New York University women's soccer team defeated The College at Old Westbury 8-2 on Sunday, September 16, at Panther Park in Old Westbury, NY.
 
Serra Tumay led the Violets (3-2) with two goals and an assist, leaving her just one point shy of tying the school record for career points.
 
Erin Ahmed, Cami Crawford, Ashley-Simone McKenzie, Haley San Giacomo, Claire Shanahan, and Taylor Francoeur also found the back of the net for NYU, which led by as much as 6-0 and outshot Old Westbury (1-5) 26-10.
 
Highlights
 
- Ahmed opened the scoring 11:30 in, taking a feed from Melissa Menta and striking a shot off the left post and in.
 
- Crawford made it 2-0 just three minutes later, heading in a high cross from Menta after Tumay played the freshman to the corner.
 
- Tumay scored back-to-back goals in the 25th and 29th minutes, both times burying shots into the top of the net. McKenzie made it 5-0 heading into halftime, collecting a loose ball and firing a shot to the far left corner.
 
- San Giacomo scored her first career goal just 1:49 into the second half, finishing an Imani Ribadeneyra feed after a scramble in front.
 
- After the Panthers made it 6-1, the Violets added two more goals in the final 10 minutes. Shanahan put in a rebound after Ribadeneyra struck the crossbar, and Francoeur put in a close-range shot with just over a minute remaining. Old Westbury added its last tally with 47 seconds to play.
 
The Violets return to action on Thursday, September 20, for a home contest at 7:00 pm against Farmingdale State College at Gaelic Park.
