Women's Volleyball Splits Final Day of RIT Invitational

The New York University women's volleyball team started off the second day of the RIT Invitational with a win on Saturday, September 15, against St. John Fisher College. The Violets topped the Cardinals in three sets (25-20, 25-10, 25-15), improving their record to 6-4 on the season.
 
However, NYU fell to Bluffton University in a five-set heart-breaker (20-25, 25-16, 25-22, 23-25, 15-12) in its final match at the invitational. 
 
NYU vs. St. John Fisher Highlights

- Alexandria Mao filled up the stat sheet with nine digs, eight kills, two aces, and one block. 
 
- The Violets' defense held the Cardinals to a .055 hitting percentage.
 
- Vera Shulgina had an all-around effective match, tallying eight digs, six kills, three service aces, and two blocks.
 
- Kaylee Schanda led the defense with 16 of the team's 46 digs.

NYU vs. Bluffton Highlights

- Trailing two sets to one, NYU dug deep to take the fourth set before ultimately falling in an extremely tight fifth set.
 
- Mao was the Violets' primary weapon. She recorded 18 kills on 46 attacks and 16 digs.
 
- Allie Williams was the epitome of efficiency, recording 13 kills with just one error.  
 
- NYU hit just .133 compared to the .298 they hit in the first contest.
 
 The Violets' next match is against the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday, September 19, at the Coles Sports Center. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
