The New York University women's volleyball ball team dropped both of its matches in their season-opening Labor Day Invitational, which is being held Friday and Saturday, August 31-September 1, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

In their first match, the Violets fell to SUNY New Paltz 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-10). NYU played better in their second match-up, but still dropped a 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-16) decision to Salisbury University.

- Despite the straight-set losses, NYU did have early leads in all six sets.

- Alexandria Mao was the Violet leader in kills in both matches, recording eight and 12, respectively.

Hope Bogle had team-highs of 12 assists in the opener and 14 in the second match.

- Kaylee Schanda led a team-best 15 and 13 digs, respectively.

- After recording only one total block in the first match, NYU totaled 12 against Salisbury.

"Going into today, we thought that we would have a line-up that we could stick with," said NYU head Coach Jolie Ward. "It didn't work out that way, so many of our freshman were able to show what they have in the second match. Moving forward, we're counting on our returning players to step up and show strength and leadership."

The full Labor Day Invitational weekend schedule, as well as additional information on the participating teams, is available on the tournament page, which is being updated after each match. All NYU matches can be followed via live stats.
