Men's Wrestling Team Defeats Stevens in Home Opener

NYU Improves to 4-1 on the Season

Sam Galassi won his 197-pound bout to improve to 6-3 on the season.
 The New York University men's wrestling team defeated the Stevens Institute of Technology 20-13 in an exciting back-and-forth match on Friday, December 7, at the Jerome S. Coles Center in Manhattan.
 
NYU trailed Stevens by four points heading into the 184-pound match when Jake Pawlowski, Sam Galassi (197), and Anthony Chu (285) ripped off three-straight wins to clinch a victory in the team's home opener.
 
“We are extremely happy with the way our guys stepped up,” said Senior Assistant Head Coach Corey Luce.  “(Heavyweight) Anthony Chu deserves a lot of credit for the way he wrestled in a high-pressure situation in that last match.”
 
NYU heads into the holiday break with a 4-1 dual-meetl record and a 1-0 mark in the Centennial Conference.
 
Highlights:
 
-Galassi came up with a huge technical fall to give the grapplers a 17-13 lead going into the final match.
 
-With NYU holding onto a small advantage, Chu rose to the occasion and won 5-2 to cap off the most thrilling dual of NYU's season thus far.
 
-DJ Albonico (141) had an impressive night, winning his dual 2-1.
 
-Janik Santana-Quintana (125) and Gabe Gleason (157) also recorded victories for NYU.
 
The grapplers return to the mats tomorrow, Saturday, December 8, for the Long Island Invitational in Kings Point, NY.
