Box Score

Cami Crawford's overtime goal ended a wild, high-scoring affair and lifted the New York University women's soccer team to a 6-5 victory at William Paterson University on Wednesday, October 3, in Wayne, NJ.

Playing through extremely wet and foggy conditions, the Violets (7-3) gave up three two-goal leads before having to rally to tie the game on Serra Tumay's tally with 9:50 to play. Crawford then netted her second goal of the game 7:45 into overtime to win it, taking a feed from Melissa Menta and making a long run before beating the goalkeeper.

Highlights

- Imani Ribadeneyra and Crawford gave NYU a 2-0 lead in the early going, with Natalie Beach setting up Crawford's tally in the 21st minute.

- William Paterson (5-6-2) took just 1:46 to respond on a Sheray Anthony goal. But, Crawford fed Menta in the 29th minute to put the Violets back up two at 3-1.

- After Jacquelyn Gage pulled the Pioneers back to within one, Leslie Smith headed in a cross from Menta for her first goal of the season to make it 4-2. William Paterson, however, scored two more goals before half to make things even at 4-4 going into the break and then made it 5-4 in the 54th minute.

- The high-scoring contest managed to go more than 26 minutes without a goal before Tumay finally knotted things up in the 81st minute. She buried a free kick from the left wing to the far right post to force overtime.

- Crawford ended the match 7:45 into overtime with Menta's help. Crawford finished with two goals and an assist, while Menta had a goal and two helpers to tie the school record for assists in a season (8).

“The team showed a lot of heart to keep fighting until the last minute of the game and find a way to win,” said Head Coach Michele Canning.

NYU returns home on Saturday, October 6, for a University Athletic Association (UAA) matchup with the University of Rochester. Kickoff is at 11:00 am at Gaelic Park.
