The New York University women's volleyball team won both its matches on the opening day of competition at the New York State Challenge, which the Violets are hosting on Friday and Saturday, October 26-27, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
The Violets (16-13) defeated Nazareth College in four sets 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-22 and Plattsburgh State University, also in four sets (25-19, 22-25, 25-14, 25-12), on Friday.
Highlights vs. Nazareth:

Alexandria Mao led the way with 20 kills.

Hope Bogle had a match-high 29 assists, while
Emily Moore also reached double digits with 10. Bogle also totaled a match-high five service aces.

Kaylee Schanda posted 22 digs to lead a strong defensive effort.

Nicole Frias had six kills and only one error for a .556 hitting percentage.
"We played with a lot of energy and scored when we needed to," said NYU Head Coach
Jolie Ward. "This was a great step in the right direction."
Highlights vs. Plattsburgh State:
- Mao again recorded the most kills in the match, finishing with 15. She also had three service aces.
- Bogle (26) and Moore (15) had the two highest assist totals in the match.
- Schanda again posted 22 digs while adding three service aces.
- Rachal Horvath added a career-high 11kills.
"Our solid, aggressive serving was key to our victory," Ward said.
The Violets return to the court on Saturday with matches against Mt. St. Mary College (11am) and Clarkson University (3pm).
