Box Score
The New York University women's soccer team fell 2-0 in its regular-season non-conference finale to visiting Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday, October 23, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
The Violets (9-6) were unable to stop the red-hot Knights (15-2-1), who extended their unbeaten streak to 16 games with the win. Shanice Robe, the leading goal and point scorer in all of Division III, netted both goals for Mount Saint Mary.
Highlights
- After a scoreless first half, Robe put the Knights up 1-0 just 1:46 into the second period. Brigit Burgio sent a long through ball from the back, which Robe chased down behind the defense and put away past the charging
Meg Patten.
- Robe expanded Mount Saint Mary's lead 10 minutes later. Lindsey Oro played a free kick into the box, which bounced off a defender and right to Robe in front. The freshman buried it to the far left post to make it 2-0.
-
Cami Crawford and
Serra Tumay had NYU's best chances, both sending shots just wide of the right post in the second half. Tumay also nearly found the back of the net on a free kick from 22 yards out, but goalkeeper Jacquelyn Mancini saved the bending strike.
- Patten totaled five stops between the pipes for the Violets, while Mancini had the one stop of Tumay in earning the clean sheet.
NYU is back in action on Friday, October 26, for a University Athletic Association (UAA) matchup against 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University. Kickoff is at 11:00 am at Gaelic Park.
