The New York University women's volleyball team defeated local rival Stevens Institute of Technology 3-2 (25-19, 25-17, 18-25, 16-25, 15-11) on Wednesday, October 10, at the Coles Sports Center. The win improved the Violets to 13-7 on the season and dropped the Ducks to 9-15.
The contest was NYU's first Tear It Up! event of the year, and a large crowd of students was in attendance to cheer on the Violets. After dominating the first two sets, NYU stumbled in sets three and four before regaining its composure and comfortably taking the fifth set.

- The victory was NYU's first in five sets this season.

Alexandria Mao led the squad with a team-high 19 kills. She also had seven digs and a perfect 1.000 reception percentage on 28 attempts.

Nicole Frias controlled the middle with eight kills and a career-best five blocks.

Jenn Korte had a fantastic night with a season-best 13 kills and a .391 hitting percentage.

Hope Bogle were as solid and reliable as ever. Schanda posted 17 digs, while Bogle doled out 33 assists.
- For the Ducks, Maggie Kowalski led the way with a match-high 20 kills.
“It was good to see the team battle and win a five-setter,” said NYU Head Coach
Jolie Ward. “We struggled with consistency but were able to overcome that and get a very gratifying victory.”
The Violets travel to Pittsburgh, PA, this Saturday and Sunday, October 13-14, to take on four University Athletic Association opponents (UAA) at the UAA Round Robin #2, which is being hosted by Carnegie Mellon University. NYU opens play at the round robin against rival Brandeis University at 10:30 am on Saturday.
