The New York University women's volleyball team split its two matches as play opened at the University Athletic Association Round Robin #2, which is being held at the University of Rochester on Saturday and Sunday, October 15-16.

In its first match on Saturday, NYU (15-9, 2-3 UAA) was beaten by  #3 nationally-ranked  Emory University (26-2, 5-0) in straight sets. The game scores were 25-15, 25-15, 25-18.

Sarah Buckingham led NYU with 11 kills. Hope Bogle had 20 set assists, while Kaylee Schanda added a team-high 11 digs.

Emory's Amelia McCall had a match-high 13 kills.

"We were out-paced in the first match," said NYU head coach Jolie Ward. "We were tentative and a bit frantic."

The Violets regrouped in the second match and swept the host Yellowjackets 26-24, 25-15, 25-20.

Buckingham again led the team with 12 kills. Bogle set 22 assists and was aided in that area by Laurie Goodman's 13. Schanda was tops with 15 digs, while Natalie Fernandez had 10.

Kolby Warren contributed eight kills, three digs, three service aces, and a block.

Bogle also had three aces.

"We had a much better performance in the second match with the whole group rising to the occasion," Ward explained. "Laurie came in and made an impact with strong setting from the front line. Strong serving by Kolby and Hope was also a big part of our victory."

Casey Larsen had a team-high nine kills for Rochester  (14-13, 1-4)  .

On Sunday, NYU faces the University of Chicago at 12:00pm and Case Western University at 2:00pm.
