In its final match before the beginning of University Athletic Association (UAA) competition, the New York University women's volleyball team overcame dropping the second set to Vassar College to pull off a 3-1 win on Wednesday, September 29, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The Violets (19-2), currently ranked #23 in the AVCA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll, extended their winning streak to 13 matches, their longest such streak since 2005, with the 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-20, 25-15) victory over the Brewers (8-8).

Leading the offense for NYU was Erin McLaughlin, who tied a career high with 17 kills while also setting a career best in digs with 21. The double-double was her fifth of the year.

The Violets also saw three other starters put down double-digit kills, with Kendyl Dunn and Alex Mao recording 11 each and Beth Fionda adding 10.

On defense, NYU recorded the eighth-highest single-match dig total in the school's rally-scoring history, putting up 100 as a team.  Leading the defensive charge was Alexis Schwartz, who tied a season high with 29 digs for her 13th double-digit dig performance of the season.

Also in double-digits on defense were Mina Baban and Natalie Fernandez, who both notched 11, while Fernandez also added four service aces.

Rachel Sawyer recorded 18 digs for her 13th double-digit dig performance, but her biggest milestone came on the service line.  Sawyer recorded four aces in the match to move into third place all-time at NYU, surpassing Katya Khmelnitskaya's career total of 213.  For her career, Sawyer now has 216 aces and has recorded 56 thus far in 2010, just 12 shy of the career high of 68 she set last year.

For the Brewers, Chloe McGuire recorded 11 kills while Jessie Ditmore added 17 digs.

The Violets return to action this weekend when they travel to Atlanta, GA, to take part in first UAA Round Robin of 2010.  NYU will take on host Emory University, currently ranked #3 by the AVCA, on Saturday, and Case Western Reserve University and Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday.
