The New York University women's volleyball team easily defeated Montclair State University in straight sets on Wednesday night, September 15, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
The Violets (8-2), currently ranked #23 in the AVCA Division III Coaches Poll, needed only 55 minutes to extend their home winning streak to six matches with the 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-15) sweep of the Red Hawks (0-10).
Leading the offense for NYU was Sally Downs, who put down a season-high 11 kills and hit .500 while also tallying a match-high six service aces.
Also putting up strong numbers on offense was Alexa Carrasco, who tallied a season-best eight kills while also hitting .500.
On defense, libero Rachel Sawyer put up a season-high 12 digs while also serving up four aces.
For the Red Hawks, Alyssa Batiste recorded seven kills while Kaitlyn Irwin notched 14 digs.
The Violets return to action this weekend when they travel to Rochester, NY, to take part in the annual Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational. The team will begin the weekend with a match against St. John Fisher College on Friday at 2:00 pm.
