The New York University wresting team had a disappointing day as they dropped both of their matches at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA, on Friday, December 10.

NYU dropped decisions to host Elizabethtown (38-6) and to the Stevens Institute of Technology (23-12) and fell to 1-3 in dual meets this season. 

In its match against Stevens, NYU was able to battle back from a quick 6-0 deficit as the team forfeited the first bout of the day in the 125-pound weight class. Steven Contino (133), Clement Bommier (141) and Calvin Hawkes (149) posted three straight decision victories, giving the grapplers a 9-6 advantage. Then, after Matthew Boyd (157) took a tough major decision loss, senior captain Matt Magill (165) earned a hard-fought 3-0 decision win over Leo Dormann, regaining the lead for NYU, 12-10.

However, NYU was unable to hold on to its lead. The grapplers dropped the last four bouts of the match and Stevens won with a final score of 23-12.

In the second match of the day, NYU faced off against #20-ranked Elizabethtown. 

NYU fell behind 24-0 before winning its first bout. Captain Matt Magill (165) continued his winning day by posting the team's first victory, an 8-3 decision over Quint Eno.

The other winner for NYU against Elizabethtown was Steve Massey (197). In a very close bout, Massey was able to pull through and squeak by his opponent Matt Zdradzinski, 7-6. 

The NYU wrestlers return to the mat when they travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA, to compete in the Wilkes University Open on Dec. 28.
