Women's Swimming & Diving Team Tops Field at Rochester Invitational

Violets Defeat Rochester and Case Western Reserve

The NYU women's swimming & diving team topped both the University of Rochester and Case Western Reserve University at the University of Rochester Invitational held on October 29-30, at the Speegel-Wilbraham Aquatic Center in Rochester, NY. The Violets beat Rochester 203-157, while they narrowly defeated Case Western Reserve 179.50-171.5. 

The swimming team was led by Molly Rippe and Gabby Borutecene. Rippe won the 500 freestyle in 5:17.38 on Saturday and the 1,650 freestyle in 18:01.29 on Friday.

Borutecene won both the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.23 and the 400 individual medley (IM) in 4:46.67. She also took second in the 200 backstroke, clocking 2:34.76. On Friday, she finished first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:15.42.

Nina Rusiewski also had a good day, winning both the 100 freestyle and the 50 freestyle. She finished the 100 free in 54.00 and the 50 in 24.98.

Rusiewski, Rippe and Borutecene, along with Alexandra Strzempko, were members of the 800 freestyle relay team that won the event in a time of 8:04.98 on Friday.

Strzempko placed second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:19.04 and third in the 200 freestyle in 2:01.77.

Strzempko and Jessica Harrison were also top finishers for the Violets on Friday. Harrison took second in the 1,650 in 18:19.44 and Strzempko placed third in 18:31.23.

“It was a very close meet,” said NYU head coach Lauren Beam. ”We're really excited to come out on top of our UAA opponents.”

Amanda Moffa once again led the diving team, placing second in the three-meter dive with a score of 224.45. She also took second in the one-meter dive on Friday, scoring 205.60 points.

The Violets return to the pool on November 13, when they host the United States Coast Guard Academy and Wheaton College at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan. The meet begins at 1 pm.
