The Jerome S. Coles Sports Center played host to a wrestling tri-meet on Tuesday night as the New York University grapplers welcomed Metropolitan Conference rival Centenary College and Johns Hopkins University to Greenwich Village.

In its first match, NYU defeated Johns Hopkins, 21-15, and in the nightcap, fell to Centenary, 28-6. With those two results, NYU moved to 6-4 in duals matches this season.

The event kicked off with Centenary toppling Hopkins, 36-3. Two Cyclone wrestlers, Pat Bowen and J.J. Mitchell, scored wins by fall at 157 and 174 pounds, respectively. A 7-5 win by Hopkins' Reid Mosquera over Tim Tomaino at 194 pounds helped the Blue Jays avoid the shutout.

NYU's victory over Johns Hopkins featured five lead changes and came down to the final bout as Jamie Myers defeated Richard Danilkowicz, 6-2, at heavyweight to seal the win for the home team. Myers usually campaigns at 197 pounds and had to overcome a distinct weight disadvantage to top Danilkowicz.

"Jamie is really improving at wrestling from the bottom. He isn't allowing a lot of riding time," said NYU assistant coach Nick Coleman. "He keeps improving and we expect him to be peaking at the right time of the year."

Also providing a key victory for NYU against Johns Hopkins was Steve Massey who outlasted Dylan Meade, 7-4, at 174 pounds. Massey's win gave NYU a lead at 13-12 that it would not relinquish.

Earning wins for NYU against Centenary College were James Cariddi and Myers. Cariddi defeated Pat Bowen, 10-4, at 174 pounds, while Myers topped Tomaino, 5-0, at 197 pounds. Cariddi was also victorious against Johns Hopkins.

"James really did a great job shooting (for takedowns) tonight," said Coleman. "He's showed that his best position is on his feet. He does a great job battling through every match, regardless of the score."

The NYU grapplers will return to the mat this weekend when they travel to Bridgewater, MA, to take part in a tri-meet against Bridgewater State College and Rhode Island College.
