MIT Invitational Saturday Schedule
The New York University women's volleyball team defeated Smith College and fell to Williams College on the first day of the MIT Invitational, Friday, September 25, in Cambridge, MA.
The Violets (13-2) began the day by easily defeating Pioneers (2-6) in just one hour 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-14). In their second match, NYU attempted to rally back from a 2-0 deficit before falling in five to the Ephs (7-3) 25-18, 25-23, 16-25, 15-25, 15-9.
Leading the way on offense against Smith was freshman Kendyl Dunn who put down seven kills while adding two blocks and a service ace.
On defense, senior captain Jess Storer notched a team-high seven kills and also notched a service ace and two kills.
In the match against Williams, Dunn tied a career-best 20 kills and added three blocks.
Also in double-digits on offense were sophomore Kolby Warren and freshman Natalie Fernandez. Warren tallied 11 kills and put down three blocks while Fernandez put together a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs.
On defense, junior Rachel Sawyer notched her second 30-plus digs match of the season, putting up a season-high 32 along with a service ace.
The Violets will play in the Silver Bracket on Saturday at the MIT Invitational. NYU will take on Springfield College at 10:00 am with its final match at 2:00 pm. Live stats will be available for the match.
