Late Goal Stalls Violets vs. Case

Box Score

A Case Western Reserve University goal with 7:44 remaining proved the difference in its 1-0 victory over New York University in University Athletic Association (UAA) women's soccer action Saturday afternoon at the College of Staten Island Soccer Complex in Staten Island, NY.

Although the Violets (8-4-0, 0-2-0 UAA) owned a 14-6 edge in shots, including a 10-3 advantage in the second half, and a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks, the Spartans (8-3-1, 2-0-0 UAA) snapped the scoreless tie when Deena Levey banged home a rebound after NYU goalkeeper Rachael Ross (4 saves) made a lunging save to punch aside a Kaitlyn Yule shot.

Filiz Kipcakli led NYU with three shots, including two on goal.

Anna Kennedy made five saves for Case Western, which recorded its fifth straight shutout.

NYU returns to action Friday, Oct. 16, when it travels to Atlanta to face UAA rival Emory University at 7:30 p.m.
