Wrestlers Fall in 2009 Debut

Drop a 24-12 Decision to Centenary College

Shumino recorded a fall in just over two minutes.

The New York University wrestling team dropped a 24-12 decision to Centenary College in a dual match held on Saturday in Hackettstown, NJ.

Co-captain Naum Shuminov was the only NYU grappler to win on the mat, as he pinned his opponent, Nick Marchiafava, in just 2:08 in their 174-pound bout.

Junior Kyle Christensen also earned six points for NYU with a victory via forfeit at 125 pounds.

The loss dropped NYU's 2008-09 dual match record to 3-3, while Centenary improved to 8-2.

It was NYU's first dual-meet competition since a 30-18 win over McDaniel College on Nov. 22.

"We wrestled on our heels and timid, while they were aggressive and fearless," said NYU head coach Bruce Haberli.  "I don't know why."

The squad springs right back into action and hosts Muhlenberg College and Elizabethtown College this Wednesday, Jan. 7, beginning at 4:00pm at the Coles Sports Center.
