The New York University women's swimming & diving team edged The College of New Jersey 152-148 Saturday in Ewing, NJ.
Sophomore Chelsea Pfohl earned a NCAA Provisional “B” time in the 100 butterfly with her first-place time of 58.40. She also clinched a win in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall at 1:00.61.
The turning point of the meet was the 200 individual medley, which NYU won. Freshman Kristen Fujii won that event with a time of 2:16.02, while another freshman, Megan Rappa, placed second in 2:16.37. These finishes added 13 points to the overall total.
“This was probably the toughest meet of the season,” said NYU head coach Lauren Beam. “It's nice to have these types of competitions before going into conference meets. We are looking forward to the conference championship, and think we are in pretty good shape.”
On the diving side, senior Melanie Peters won the three-meter event for the second straight week capturing her second NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark of the season earning 283.65 points. She finished third in the one-meter dive with 223.85 points.
The Violets (8-1) return to the pool for Senior Day on Saturday, Jan. 31, against Vassar College at NYU's Palladium Athletic Facility Natatorium in Manhattan at 1pm. This is their last regular-season meet before the University Athletic Association Championships start on Feb. 12.
