Palumbo, Pillemer Lift NYU to Third Straight Triumph

Sarah Pillemer helped lead the Violets to their third-straight win.

Sophomore Laura Palumbo produced two goals and senior Sarah Pillemer added a tally and two assists as the New York University women's soccer team blanked the College of Staten Island, 7-0, Friday afternoon at the CSI Soccer Complex in Staten Island, NY.

Palumbo found the back of the net twice in the first 12:13, once unassisted and once off a feed from Pillemer, and the senior added a score at 17:59 to help the Violets (3-2) take a 3-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, sophomores Filiz Kipcakli (60:58), Jane Barrett (67:39) and Emily Jenkinson (86:08), as well as junior Nan Moses (87:13), got into the scoring act as NYU produced its best offensive output under second-year head coach Werner T. Dasbach.

In the contest, three players produced their first collegiate points off assists: sophomore Cait Kilpatrick on Palumbo's first tally, freshman Sophie Gayter on Jenkinson's goal and freshman Erica Jones on Moses' score.

Junior Lucy Dolly Caires and sophomore Britta Gauthier also added assists in the victory for NYU.

In goal, sophomore Alex Walters improved to 3-1 with 60 minutes of shutout ball before freshman Rachael Ross came on for the final 30 minutes.

Overall, NYU owned a 40-0 edge on shots and a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Tina Bellocchio made 18 saves for CSI (0-6).

NYU returns to action Sunday, Sept. 14, at Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ.  Game time is 1 p.m.
