Box Score
New York University suffered a 4-0 setback to #3-ranked The College of New Jersey in its season opener Saturday at the Elizabethtown College Blue Jay Classic in Elizabethtown, PA.
Beginning the toughest schedule in school history, the Violets, who reached the 2007 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Metropolitan Tournament, could not quell the offensive attack of a Lions' squad that has reached three straight NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship semifinals and is ranked #3 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division III Preseason Poll.
Casey Caruso got TCNJ on the board at the 20:53 mark, before a tally from Jillian Casey at 40:21 gave the Lions a 2-0 lead going into intermission.
In the second half, Gina Colati and Julianne Delorenzo tacked on insurance tallies for TCNJ.
However, the Violets did create a couple of scoring chances over the final 45 minutes.
Overall, NYU was outshot 17-7 and trailed 3-2 in corner kicks.
In her first collegiate start, sophomore goalkeeper
Alex Walters put aside 10 shots, five in each half.
NYU will look for a better result Sunday in its second game at the Blue Jay Classic, as it will take on host Elizabethtown at 3 p.m.
