The New York University women's volleyball team will make its 2008 debut at home on Saturday, August 30, when it hosts its annual NYU Labor Day Invitational.

Led by seventh-year head coach Ed Caesar and bolstered by the return of 10 players from a team that made it to the semifinals of the ECAC South Tournament, the Violets (19-19, 5-6 University Athletic Association in 2007) will open the season against the Polytechnic  Institute of NYU at 10:00 am, followed by a match against The Sage Colleges at 3:00 pm. On Sunday, NYU takes on Whitworth University at 12:30 pm and closes the weekend by renewing a long-time rivalry with Rutgers University-Newark at 3:00 pm.

Senior Stacy Goto, an Honorable Mention All-UAA selection in 2007 will lead the Violets along the back line as the team captain in 2008. Also returning on the back line are junior Michaela Hammond, and sophomores Rachel Sawyer, Annie Baer and Anna Koehler.

Along the net, the Violets will be led by 2007
American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) New York Region Rookie of the Year Erin Noonan. Also competing for time along the front line will be junior Jourdan Ellis, and sophomores Kasey Estes, Julia Rickert and Bethany Burr.

Leading a group of nine newcomers (eight incoming freshman and one transfer) will be freshman Mina Baban, the Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year, who will take over the setting duties.
