Women's Volleyball Falls in UAA Opener

The New York University women's volleyball team could not hold an 8-4 game-five lead as the Violets fell to the University of Chicago 3-2 on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #1 in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Violets (13-5, 0-1 UAA) dropped the first set 25-21 before taking the next two from the Maroons (14-6, 1-0 UAA).  In the fourth set NYU could not hold the momentum and dropped a 25-21 decision.

In set five, the Violets jumped out to an early lead and were ahead 8-4 going into the court switch.  However, the Maroons reeled off the next eight points and NYU could not recover, dropping the set 15-13.

Three Violets posted double-digit kills in the match as sophomore Erin Noonan put down 19, freshman Elizabeth Dick recorded 15 and freshman Kolby Warren added 10.

On defense, NYU was led by freshman Britney Messier who recorded a team-high 23 digs.

The Violets return to action for the second day of the UAA Round Robin #1 on Sunday, Oct. 5, when they take on Brandeis University at 9:00 am followed by Emory University at 2:00 pm.  Live stats will be available for both matches.
