NYU vs. Carnegie Mellon Box Score

The New York University women's volleyball team fell to Carnegie Mellon University 3-1 at the Wid Guisler Invitational at Juniata College, Friday, Oct. 24, in Huntingdon, PA.

The Violets (18-11) got off to a slow start, falling behind the Tartans (17-13) 17-9 in the first.  The team did muster a rally, coming within 22-19.  However, NYU could not pull any closer and fell 25-22.

In the second set NYU came out swinging, taking a 17-13 lead into a Carnegie Mellon timeout.  A service ace by freshman Britney Messier out of the timeout kept the momentum in the Violets' favor as they continued to build the lead to 24-16.  The Tartans took the next three points. However, a kill by senior captain Stacy Goto gave NYU the victory at 25-19.

The Violets struggled mightily in the third set, hitting -.304 to Carnegie Mellon's .706 and falling to the Tartans 25-5.

The Violets rebounded, however, in the fourth set.  The team took a lead early and held it until a kill by Carnegie Mellon's Megan Killeen tied it at 22.  After an NYU timeout, the Violets took the lead 23-22 off a kill by freshman Elizabeth Dick.  However, the Tartans tallied the final three points of the match to win 25-23.

On offense, Dick put down a match-high 13 kills and added five digs, while sophomore Erin Noonan was also in double-digits, putting down 10 kills.

Messier recorded her ninth consecutive double-digit kill effort on defense, putting up a match-high 18 in the loss.

For the Tartans, Chisom Amaechi recorded a team-high 11 kills while Cameron Griffin put up 17 digs.

The Violets return to action tomorrow when they take on host Juniata at 11:00 am, then Washington and Lee University at 3:00 pm.
