Women's Volleyball Drops Two at Brandeis

The New York University women's volleyball team lost 3-0 to Case Western Reserve University to fall to 1-3 at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2, Sunday, Oct. 19, at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.

With the loss, the Violets (18-10, 2-5 UAA) will get the seventh seed going into the UAA Championship at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, Nov. 7-8.

In the match against the Spartans (15-11, 3-4 UAA), the Violets held the sets close but could not pull out a win, falling 25-23, 25-20, 25-18.

On offense, sophomore Erin Noonan led the way with 12 kills while hitting a team-high .321.

Defensively, freshman Britney Messier recorded 20 or more digs for the third time during the weekend, putting up a match-high 22.  Senior captain Stacy Goto also recorded double-digit digs, putting up 13.

For Case Western Reserve, Tricia McCutchan recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 14 digs.

In the Violets' first match of the day, the team fell to Washington University in straight sets.

The Violets held the match close in the first set, and were within one point at 19-18, However, NYU could not bring it any closer, falling 25-21.

In the second and third sets, the Bears (22-5, 6-1 UAA) proved to be too much for NYU, as Washington went on to win 25-15, 25-17.

On offense, Noonan put up a team-high 11 kills while hitting .364.

Messier recorded double-digit digs, putting up a team-high 12.

The Violets return to the court next weekend when they travel to Huntingdon, PA, to take part in the Wid Guisler Invitational at Juniata College.  The Violets will face Carnegie Mellon University, Washington and Lee University and host Juniata.
