Women's Soccer Drops Contest to Chicago

The New York University women's soccer team lost by a 2-1 margin to the University of Chicago on Sunday, Oct. 19, in a University Athletic Association contest in the Windy City.

Chicago (7-5-1, 2-2 UAA) got on the board quickly when Siggy Nachtergael buried a cross from Claire Denz 3:18 into the match. Right before the half at 41:22, Sarah Loh headed in a cross off of two passes to give Chicago a 2-0 lead.

The Violets (8-5, 2-2 UAA) tightened the match with a score in the second half. Sophomore Britta Gauthier knocked in her second goal of the season at 86:56 off a pass from sophomore Laura Palumbo. It was Palumbo's team-leading fifth assist of the year.

Sophomore Alex Walters (8-4) made six saves for the Violets, while Polly Cline made three for the Maroons.

NYU took one more corner kick than Chicago (3-2), but Chicago had an 18-6 edge on shots.

The Violets return home for their final four regular-season matches. On Oct. 26, they face Montclair State University at 12 p.m. at the College of Staten Island Soccer Complex.
