Matt DeMichiel is in his first year as an assistant coach of the New York University’s men’s and women’s tennis teams. He is assisting Head Coach Horace Choy in all facets of the program.
A 2017 NYU graduate with a business degree from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business, DeMichiel was a four-year member of the Violets’ tennis team who served as captain during his senior campaign. He completed his career with an overall 41-28 singles record and 39-28 doubles mark. DeMichiel led the team with 14 singles wins as a junior and tied for the team lead with 15 doubles victories as a senior. He also earned Second Team All-UAA (University Athletic Association) and ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Association) Division III Player of the Month (March) honors as a junior.
DeMichiel not only excelled on the court, but in the classroom, as well. He was a three-time UAA All-Academic honoree, three-time member of NYU’s Intercollegiate Athletic Advisory Committee (IAAC) Honor Roll, and received NYU’ s Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Award and was named ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) All-Academic as a senior.
DeMichiel has also served as a tennis instructor at the Rockaway Hunting Club in Lawrence, NY, since 2015, and continues to give private lessons to both children and adults.
DeMichiel is a native and resident of Hewlett, NY.
