Fresh off the program’s 20th City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championship, the Hunter College Hawks (17-17) received an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament.

The Hawks will rely on the attack duo of juniors Mallory Grubler and Christine Luebcke, who have combined for over 700 kills this season. Grubler leads the team with 415 kills, was an All-Conference performer, and earned two All-Tournament nods on the season. Luebcke, the CUNYAC Tournament MVP who slammed home 25 kills in the championship game against a very tough opponent in Baruch College, is another weapon in the Hawk’s arsenal.

All-Conference performer, setter Katina Boutis, along with sophomore Kim Hirten also play important roles and need to be at the top of their game if the Hawks plan on getting past Clarkson in the first round. Boutis has 850 assists (7.87 per game), while Hirten leads the team with 378 digs.

“All the girls on this team play a specific role and know what we need to do to win,” says head coach Ray Bello. ”They work well and feed off of each other, which adds a great deal to the team chemistry. Winning the CUNYAC Championship on our home court gave us a lot of momentum and confidence heading into the NCAA Tournament. We’re as prepared as we can be."
