The New York University wrestling team swept three dual matches on Sunday, January 14, at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, NY.
NYU (9-5) first defeated Delaware Valley College 27-25, before taking down Rhode Island College, 42-6, and Muhlenberg College, 32-9, in more comfortable fashion.
"We were disappointed by our performance at the National Duals," said Senior Assistant Coach
Corey Luce. "Couldn't be happier with the way we bounced back, though. The guys we put on the mat today are our toughest guys. They responded well. A few of them bumped up classes to help our squad. This crew proved their toughness."
Against Del Val, NYU earned forfeit victories at 125 pounds and 149 pounds, while also recording bonus-point victories from
Will Crisco (141 pounds; pin),
Raymond Jazikoff (165 pounds; technical fall) and 197 pounds (
Jack La Corte; major decision). The grapplers gave up forfeits at 184 pounds and heavyweight, but were still able to come away with the victory.
The match against Rhode Island was one-sided as the only bout RIC took was via forfeit.
Muhlenberg's match was similar, as the Mules only won one bout via forfeit and one by decision.
Jazikoff finished the day 3-0 with a pair of victories by technical fall and freshman John Luke Destefano also won three bouts at 125 pounds on Sunday.
"Again, we responded well after a rough performance at the National Duals," concluded Luce. "Proud of what we have and excited to move forward with this squad."
NYU is slated to return to the mat next Sunday, January 21, when it travels to take on Long Island University - Post at 1pm.
