The New York University wrestling team had a pair of matches in Brookville, NY, on Thursday night, February 18. The squad defeated the College of Mount Saint Vincent 55-0 in its first match, but fell to host Long Island University-Post, 32-8.
"We're happy to close out the regular season with Division II competition," said NYU Assistant Coach Gene Kobilansky. "It's tough to take a few losses, but our guys are exceptionally prepared for NCAA Regionals. They're expecting big things of themselves next weekend."NYU and CMSV had only three matches that were not forfeits, as
Nathan Pike (133 lbs.) and
Austin Day (141 lbs.) each picked up technical falls, 17-0 and 19-3, respectively, while
Dylan Lojac (174 lbs.) earned a six-point decision.
Against the hosting Division II Pioneers,
Wayne Yuan began the match with a 5-3 sudden-victory decision at 125 pounds.
Raymond Jazikoff was the other NYU grappler to come out with a victory as the sophomore 157-pounder picked up a 17-0 technical fall.
This was the final regular-season action of the year for NYU. The grapplers will return to action for the NCAA Division III East Regional Championships, hosted by Centennial Conference rival Washington & Lee University, in Lexington, VA. The championships will be on Saturday and Sunday, February 27-28.
