USA TODAY Sports Division III Top 25 poll.
Both polls were released on Tuesday, December 16.
NYU's
D3hoops.com ranking is its highest since January 15, 2008, when the Violets were receiving first-place votes and ranked #3 in the nation. As for
USA Today, the Violets' were ranked #8 on January 25, 2009.
After beginning the season ranked #15 and #17 in the respective preseason polls, NYU has reeled off eight straight victories with an average margin of victory of 21.5 points. Led by tournament MVP
Megan Dawe, the Violets began their season 2-0 by winning the 2014 NYU Tip-Off title over 2013-14 NCAA Tournament qualifier Plattsburgh State University. NYU followed that with a pair of non-conference victories over the College of Staten Island and Springfield College before bringing in Thanksgiving Break with a convincing victory against St. Joseph's College-LI.
In the month of December, Dawe,
Amy Harioka and
Emily Rowe have led the Violets to three victories (Brooklyn College, Emmanuel College and Farmingdale State College). All three players are averaging double-figures scoring this month, led by Dawe's 13.7 ppg. Harioka is shooting .538 from long range and averaging 11.0 ppg. Rowe is just off double-double pace, averaging 10.3 ppg and 9.3 rpg.
NYU is joined by two other University Athletic Association (UAA) squads in this week's polls. Washington University-St. Louis is ranked #5 by both
D3hoops.com and
USA Today, while the University of Rochester is receiving votes in both polls.
The Violets will be back in action when they return from break to host the 2015 NYU Holiday Classic on Saturday and Sunday, January 3-4, at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan. NYU will face Swarthmore College on Saturday at 5:00 pm and William Smith College on Sunday at 4:00 pm.
