NYU 1 St. Joseph's-LI 0The New York University women's soccer team defeated St. Joseph's College-Long Island 1-0 on Tuesday night, October 21, in Patchogue, NY. The game, which lasted 70 minutes -- two 35-minute halves -- was delayed twice due to lightning.
The Violets (10-4-1, 2-1-1 University Athletic Association) recorded the lone goal of the contest off the foot of
Melissa Menta. The junior co-captain scored her fifth goal of the season in the 69th minute, with the assist coming from fellow co-captain
Cami Crawford. The play developed as Crawford dribbled the ball of the right side and fired a pass that led Menta, who simultaneously split the Golden Eagles' (5-10-2, 2-4-0 Skyline Conference) defense, to finish for the score.
"It was good that we were able to make adjustments based on the circumstances with the weather," said NYU Head Coach
Michele Canning. "We created a lot of chances and it was really important to stick with it to get the goal at the end and come away with the win."
