NYU Men’s Swimming & Diving Wins Dual Meet

Violets Defeat United States Merchant Marine Academy

New York University's men's swimming & diving team defeated the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) (174-126) on Friday, January 24, at the Palladium Athletic Facility (PAF) in Manhattan.
 
Junior diver Austen Blease won the one-meter (291.69) and the three-meter (294.45) events. Both of his scores were NCAA qualifiers.
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
 

- Junior diver Brian Blum placed second in the one-meter with an NCAA qualifying score (278.18). He also finished fourth in the three-meter (263.86).

"Austen Blease is starting to return to the form that made him an All-American," said Diving Coach Scott Donie. "This was also a huge day for Brian. With his score, he has qualified for the NCAA Regionals for the first time in his career. He has put in a lot of hard work and it's really starting to pay off."

- Freshman Max Phillips won the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.20) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:45.82).

- Junior Jerry Crowley won four events. He was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle (21.06), the 100-yard freestyle (46.57), the 100-yard butterfly (50.84), and was a member of the  winning 200-yard medley relay (1:35.51).

- Freshman Ethan Louie won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:06.47.

The men's and women's swimming & diving teams will compete against Vassar College on Saturday, January 25, at 1:00 pm in Poughkeepsie, NY.
