AVCA Pre-Season Poll

The New York University men's volleyball team is ranked #10 in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) entering the 2014 season.

The Violets, who finished the 2013 season at #13, received a total of 80 points in the poll.

Senior setter Connor Mortland, who has been named to the Inaugural Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Pre-Season All-America Team, will serve as team captain in 2014.

An AVCA Second Team All-America selection as a freshman and sophomore, Mortland has also been honored by the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) the past two seasons, earning First Team All-UVC accolades as a sophomore and Second Team All-UVC honors as a junior. He has led NYU in assists for each of his three seasons and currently ranks fifth all-time in assists among Violets with 2,680.

The Violets have also been picked fourth in a pre-season poll of the UVC coaches.

Senior middle blocker Nick Capriccio will also be counted on as a main contributor in 2014. He played the most sets on the team (86) last season and led in total blocks (64) en route to being named Honorable Mention All-UVC.

The Violets will open their 2014 schedule on the road against defending National Champion (and AVCA pre-season #1 selection) Springfield College on Saturday, January 25.

NYU's first home match will come on Tuesday, January 28, when it opens UVC play against the Stevens Institute of Technology at the Coles Sports Center.
