Box Score

The New York University women's volleyball team won its final match at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, defeating Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, November 9, at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.

After dropping the first set 25-22, NYU (27-7) rebounded to take the next three (26-24, 25-22, 28-26) in the tightly-contested tournament finale for both teams.

The win vaulted NYU into a fifth-place tournament finish, while the Spartans (16-17) settled for sixth.

"Although we're disappointed not to finish among the top four, our loss to Carnegie yesterday gave us the opportunity to see what the future will look like," said NYU Head Coach Jolie Ward. "There were many times when our team on the court, other than (Alexandria) Mao, featured players who are all returning next year."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Mao posted a double-double with 12 kills and 19 digs.

- Nicole Frias recorded a match-high 15 kills, while also compiling five blocks.

- Emily Moore (38) and Katie Robinson (11) each had double-digit assists.

- MaTia Hughes led the way with 25 digs.

"Overall, we gained a lot of experience and were able to see a little bit into the future," Ward explained. "Hopefully, we've turned what started out as a negative yesterday into a positive for our program."

The Violets now await word on a possible postseason berth.
