Results
For the second straight race, the New York University men's cross country team came in first place. Ranked #12 in the most recent United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Top 35 Poll, the Violets won the Monmouth Invitational on Saturday, September 15, in Holmdel, NJ.
The Violets totaled a score of 32 points over the five-mile course. NYU's top finisher was
Sebastian Oja, who came in fourth overall with a time of 26:55.8.
Highlights
-The team's other four point scorers were
Dave Knowles (fifth, 27:02.4),
Kevin Bonilla (sixth, 27:06.8),
Kyle De Leon (eighth, 27:24.0), and
Ryan Gilmore (ninth, 27:28.3).
-NYU dominated the front of the pack, as seven of the top 11 finishers were Violets.
-Felician College's Rob Albano won the race in a time of 26:16.3.
-Top runner
Dylan Karten had a strong showing in his season debut with a 10th-place finish in 27:30.9
-Host Monmouth University took second with 50 points. Shippensburg University was third with 69.
“The men ran a really smart and patient race for what I consider to be one of the hardest five-mile courses around,” said Head Coach Nick McDonough. “We had a patient strategy, as our men gradually moved up throughout the race and finished in a tight pack. I'm happy with the way we ran today and look forward to Williams next week.”
NYU will continue its season next weekend as the team travels to Williamstown, MA, to compete in the Williams Purple Valley Classic on September 22.
