New York University's women's swimming & diving team won by a landslide (211-88) at Vassar College's home meet on Saturday, January 28, in Poughkeepsie, NY.

After a tough meet last week against Old Dominion University and Montclair State University, the VIolets went to Vassar ready to compete. NYU did more than just compete, however, as the team won all but three events.

NYU started off strong with a team of Kristen Fujii, Savanna Keator, Nina Rusiewski, and Noel Elgamal winning the 200-yard medley race with a time of 1:54.59. Fujii, Rusiewski, Keator, and Emily Doerner emerged victorious in the 400-yard freestyle relay race (3:44.54), as well.

The Violets also swam impressively outside of the relay races. They swept the 1,000-yard freestyle race, where Megan Rappa (10:45.69), Kasey Morrison (10:59.72), and Rusiewski (11:18.09) came out on top. In the 500-yard freestyle, Gabby Borutecene (5:18.63), Molly Rippe (5:20.47) and Marisa Ayvaliotis (5:28.97) took the top three spots.

A few swimmers in particular contributed an especially large number of points. Keator and Fujii, along with being a member of both winning relay teams, also won a number of events individually. Fujii triumphed in the 50-yard freestyle (26.35), and Keator won the 100- (1:10.10) and 200-yard (2:35.23) breaststroke events, an exciting feat as the 200-yard breaststroke was a new event for her.

"Today was a great conclusion to the dual-meet season," said acting head coach Kacey McCaffrey. "The next three weeks we will focus on preparing for the UAA Championship Meet."

Diving had a strong day as well, as Kelly Dietz and Kate Donnelly came in first and second, respectively, in both the one- and three-meter dives. Dietz achieved NCAA qualifying scores in both dives (284.62 in the one-meter and 294.75 in the three-meter). Donnelly had a strong three-meter showing (219.35) and obtained a personal best in the one-meter (248.77).

"It was a very solid outing for NYU diving," said assistant diving coach Todd Kolean.

The team will spend their time practicing until February 16th, when they will begin the UAA Championship meet at Case Western University.
