New York University's men's swimming & diving team evened its 2011-12 record (4-4) with a 138-101 victory against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Friday, January 27, at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.
The Violets won a majority of the events. After being edged out in the 200-yard medley relay, NYU came back to sweep the 1,000-yard freestyle race.
Bryson Naylor came in first with a time of 10:07.40, followed by
Nick Paganelli (10:23.24) and Danny Isaacson (10:25.25).
A few swimmers in particular continued to impress, consistently performing well throughout the season.
Jerry Crowley won both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races with respective times of 21.78 and 47.51.
Cole Talbott won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:53.92 and

"It was a very exciting team swim," said head coach
Bob Sorensen. "I can see us getting stronger as we head towards our championship."
Diving had an equally, if not even more exciting day, sweeping both the one- and three-meter dives. Newcomer
Adam Winerip won the one-meter dive with his first career NCAA qualifying score (283.95). He was followed by teammates
Austen Blease (277.28) and
Brian Blum (232.20), who had an impressive comeback after being out due to an injury. Blease came back to win the three-meter dive (279.68), followed by Winerip (251.68) and Blum (230.63).
"We swept them on both boards," said diving coach
Scott Donie. "We are in great shape going into Vassar tomorrow."
The team will get right back into the pool on Saturday at Vassar's home meet in Poughkeepsie, NY. The competition is set to begin at 1PM.
